Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks his maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
Success also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.
The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
